In this lecture, Joseph Phillips discusses the two paths to earning the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification: with a degree and without a degree.
With a degree, you need 36 months of project management experience within the last eight years, along with 4,500 hours leading project management tasks. You also need 35 contact hours of project management education.
If you don't have a degree, you need 60 months of project management experience within the last eight years, along with 7,500 hours leading project management tasks. You still need 35 contact hours of project management education.
The application may be audited randomly, and if audited, you need to complete an experience verification form. The final step is passing the four-hour exam, for which the passing score is not disclosed by PMI (Project Management Institute).
Unique months of experience refer to the months when projects do not overlap, and overlapping months do not count as unique months of experience. However, all hours worked on different projects are counted towards the required hours.
Overall, earning the PMP certification is achievable and many others have successfully done it, so anyone can get started today.
